Information for Parents

Here is a quick guide for everything a scout's parent needs to know:

  • Pack Meetings. These are on Tuesdays. Typically, we try to meet outside as much as possible. When weather does not cooperate, we will meet at Doylestown Presbyterian Church. They are led by the cubmaster and include scouts from all the dens and their parents.

  • Den Meetings. They meet anywhere from once or twice a week and run by the den leader. These are much smaller and consist of just the kids in the den (all the same rank/age) and their parents. On average a den meeting lasts about an hour with some lasting longer based on the size of the den and the activity planned. When and where the den meets is also up to the den leader and the families in the den.

  • Cost. These dues pay for all the materials for the year, belt loops, the Blue and Gold banquet, along with a $66 for the national membership fee and $60 for the local council, which help pay for insurance and training. They are:

    • $230 for scouts for the upcoming year

    • (Note: if you are new, when you sign up online they will charge you additional fees, including a $25 new scout fee and a prorated fee for the current year)

    • If you signed up for the Boys Life Subscription, add $12.

    • There is a $20 discount for additional scouts from the same family.

    • There are also scholarships: email the cubmaster at doylepack24@gmail.com to learn more.

  • Parent Involvement. A parent should attend all scout events with their cub. We know how much people value their time, and we believe scouting is a great way to spend quality time together.

  • Uniforms. You can purchase uniforms at the local Scout Shop. There are two types: class A (formal, aka the "official uniform") and class B (informal, "activity uniform") respectively.

    • The class A uniform consists of a cap, neckerchief, slide and shirt. We are pretty informal and don't worry about matching bottoms. When you get the slide make sure you ask a scout parent how to tie it to the neckerchief so your cub does not lose it!

    • The class B uniform is a t-shirt, we will sell these through the pack.

    • Depending on the occasion either is appropriate. For Pack and Den Meetings the class B uniform is sufficient.

    • This page breaks down the uniforms for each rank nicely with pictures!

  • Handbooks. These are available through the scout store, but be aware that the requirements in the books are also available in abbreviated form online. (See "Rank Requirements" to the left). There are also pdfs of the whole book you should be able to get through your den leader.

  • Schools. We primarily recruit from Doyle Elementary, but if you go to a different school and want to join our pack you are welcome to!

  • Ready to join us? Complete the sign up form so that we can get in touch with you. It's best to join in the Fall so that you can enjoy a full year of the program but we accept applications year round.
